The site of present-day Briercrest was purchased by the Canadian National Railway (CNR) in 1911, around the time the railway line was constructed. By that year, many businesses and homes had already been built. When Briercrest was incorporated as a village in April 1912, more than 100 people called it home.
The name Briercrest dates back to 1902, when the first post office was established on the farm of Captain Charles Jaques. His wife, Mrs. Jaques, chose the name, inspired by the wild roses growing along a nearby ridge, and agreed to its use for the village.
Today, Briercrest remains an active rural community, with local businesses and community organizations serving the surrounding area. Approximately 160 residents live in the village, which is located about 45 kilometres southeast of Moose Jaw and 80 kilometres southwest of Regina, Saskatchewan.
